The most immediate value you can expect to derive from JobTabs is being relieved of the administrative burden that comes with the job search. For example, if you send an email from JobTabs to an employer it is automatically logged and cross referenced to any recruiter or networking contact you may have copied. Discussions are easily logged and cross referenced as well. If you find a job posting on the internet you can just drag and drop the URL from your address bar to an activity you are editing and the entire web page will be saved into JobTabs. Your research on employers or anything for that matter is organized exactly the way you want it. Whether that be a hyperlink to the internet, file attachments or as an in line document with all formatting preserved - it is all at your fingertips.
All of these facilities are managed as Activities. Activities are the bread crumbs that define your job search. No matter how many resumes you have or how many contacts you have, you aren't really progressing in your search until you start working with them. Activities are the events that tie it all together. There are three types of activities,
- Standard Activities - standard activities are the gist of the phone calls you make, the notes you gather during the course of your job search and the job requisitions that you apply to.
- Emails - emails are the emails and attachments you send from JobTabs.
- Submittals - submittals are a special kind of activity which define your candidacy with an employer.
Activities only exist for Recruiters, Employers or Networking contacts. Each of these entities has their own Activity tab which lists all of the activities for each entity as shown below. In keeping with the importance of distinguishing between companies for recruiters and employers versus the individual for networking contacts, activities are associated with recruiting firms, employers or individual networking contacts. Thus if you click on a recruiting firm or any of the individuals who work for that recruiting firm, the activities will remain the same. However, as you click on each networking contact's name the activities will change because these contacts are regarded at the individual level. This is by design.
If there are any attachments associated with an activity whether they be resumes or files, they will be identified by a paper clip icon
. Activities are also sorted by date in descending order. Therefore, the most recent activities will be at the top and the oldest will be at the bottom. The header font will be in the color associated with that entity which is red for recruiters, blue for employers and green for networking contacts.
First we cover the basics and then we address some of the more advanced features of activities. The activity tab is highlighted below,
