Glossary Item Box

It is unlikely you started your first job search today.  If you have, congratulations on your foray into the working world.  You've made a wise choice to proactively manage your career at the outset and the fruits of your labor will reap benefits for years to come.  For those of you who have been in the work force for some time, you have the advantage of experience.  Additionally, you have no doubt developed friends/contacts along the way.  These are golden and JobTabs will help you bring out the luster of that gold.

Grouping Considerations

JobTabs groups your contacts into three categories defined as Recruiter, Employer and Networking.  How they are grouped is important.  Recruiting contacts and employer contacts are referred to by the company they work for, while networking contacts are referred to on an individual basis.  The importance of this distinction is such that should the specific individual you worked with ever leave that recruiting firm or employer, your resume and working history will still be with the firm/company.  Maintaining a consistent profile with that firm/company will still be very important.  A new recruiter/employer contact taking over your job search at the firm/company will likely pick up where the previous individual you worked with left off.

To illustrate, if your networking contact Nathan passes your resume to his friend Emil at Empire Corp. that activity will show up under Nathan and Empire Corp.  Emil who works at Empire Corp. will not be cross-referenced.  Therefore, when you add a new contact who works for a recruiting firm or a prospective employer, you need to create the recruiting firm or employing company first.  After creating the entity, then you add the individual with whom you have established a relationship.

Viewing Contact Info

JobTabs excels at showing as much information as possible on the Contact Info tab.  Having all of the details on each individual in front of you will allow you to speak more confidently over the phone or reference your contacts correctly in an email.  By clicking a company or contact on the tree, you can see your specific comments for each company/contact.  Below is a typical contact info sample screen,
