When meeting with a prospective employer or a recruiter you need to be prepared. Knowing exactly where they are located will facilitate your timeliness and exude confidence. It will also help you if you are detoured and you have a mental picture of where they are located. JobTabs provides facilities to handle these contingencies with mapping.
While JobTabs does not directly provide the mapping facilities, it provides the interface to your maps if you choose to configure the mapping facility. The fields are listed below,
URL/Command Line
View address maps of Employers, Recruiters or Networking contacts. Type in the location of the executable or URL. Popular vendors are,
MS MapPoint
Delorme
MapQuest
![]() |
JobTabs is unaffiliated with any of these mapping providers. Please make sure you understand their licensing agreement and user documentation before using their software or service. |
Typical syntax is to reference the exact location of the executable would be,
c:\program files\mappoint\mappoint.exe
Street Address
The parameter for your mapping software that applies to the street address. JobTabs passes only the first address line when sending info to your mapping software. If there is extraneous data in the first address line such as suite numbers, PO boxes and the like, consider putting this information on the following line in order to simplify parsing the street address for your software.
City
The parameter for your mapping software that applies to the city. As a bare minimum JobTabs needs the city and state parameters in order to provide a map to your software. If either of these two parameters are missing, the mapping button on the toolbar will be disabled.
State
The parameter for your mapping software that applies to the state As a bare minimum JobTabs needs the city and state parameters in order to provide a map to your software. If either of these two parameters are missing, the mapping button on the toolbar will be disabled.
Zip Code
The parameter for your mapping software that applies to the zip code The zip code is typically not required for most mapping packages, however it does help to pinpoint a street address if a long street is in two different zip codes.
Country
The parameter for your mapping software that applies to the country
Suffix
The suffix parameter allows you to supply additional information that your mapping software could use. It is an open ended field and the data should be entered in exactly as your mapping software expects it. The suffix in many cases will allow you to specify the zoom level of your map, topographical features, road signs, and the like. Read the user documentation supplied with your mapping software for details.
URL Encoded
Internet based mapping services need to have their mapping instructions formatted in a manner that allows them to be sent over the internet. If your mapping service is located on the internet you should set this to True. If you mapping software is located on your local PC or a network then you would typically set this to False.
Mapping Requirements
Mapping requirements define the minimum parameters your software will need in order to create a map. Mapping software typically needs a city and state as a minimum to create a map. Of course, having the street address will give you a more accurate map of the location, but as a minimum you should have the city and state. If you live in a country which only needs the postal code to map an address, such as the United Kingdom, then you have the option to specify the postal code as a minimum. In all cases, the mapping prefix and suffix will be passed to the mapping application. If you do not need the suffix, then leave it blank.
