Welcome to the home of JobTabs Job Search & Resume
JobTabs is to finding a job as Quicken is to balancing a checkbook!

Our purpose is to empower the individual job seeker in the face of the sea change taking place in the employment space.  Simply put, the individual job seeker is facing a hail storm of trials in the pursuit of new opportunities.  These include the traditional challenges of finding a job, new challenges as a result of globalization, and a considerable paradigm shift brought about by the Information Age.  Let's look at them in brief.

Traditional

The process of securing a new job has traditionally been a needlessly difficult one. In some way or another it manages to tax skills that we rarely use or have no interest in grooming in ourselves. We are tasked with cold calling, extolling our accomplishments, taking an inordinate (almost giddy), interest in everybody we speak to, and all the while exuding confidence by smiling under the most adverse of circumstances. In most cases we are also tasked with being,

  • Computer Gurus - Word processors, email programs and the spread sheets to manage it all.
  • Writers - Resumes and cover letters composed with pain staking detail.
  • Image Consultants - Look successful! (even if you're unemployed)
  • Psychologist - Dejected?
    • "It's not that I'm not qualified, they just found someone else more qualified." or
    • "It wasn't personal, they don't even know me."

Even if we are proficient in most of these capacities, the job search will invariably encumber us with some facet that we absolutely abhor.

Globalization

The global economy is calling for the free flow of goods and services worldwide. American, Canadian, and Western European employees for the most part cost much more than their foreign counterparts, so there are less jobs being solicited internally. Outsourcing is increasingly becoming the norm as companies move to cut costs in the increasingly competitive global market place. Even companies partial to a home grown work force have no choice but to consider outsourcing as they are under cut by competitors tapping into a cheaper labor pool. To compound the matter, the same liberalization of trade that opened the door to outsourcing is also bringing in highly qualified workers under a number of new visa programs making competition for white collar jobs particularly keen.

New Paradigms

As if the aforesaid wasn't challenging enough, the rules are changing. Information and technology are proliferating at every level of the economy. Employers and the headhunting firms that service them are increasingly investing in new tools to manage every facet of their business. While once a heady proposition, even small companies are able to maintain large databases of "human capital" in their effort to respond to changing business needs. Their investments are paying off handsomely. Publicly solicited jobs are welcomed with a deluge of resumes; this is exactly what they wanted to happen.

The individual job seeker is not responding as well to the paradigm shift taking place in the economy. While the word processor has replaced the typewriter and email has replaced the postal service, job seekers are still operating under the same paradigm as their parents. While these software programs are sophisticated tools in their own right, they are woefully inadequate in reconciling the imbalance confronting the job seeker.
